Stretch It, Store It, Save It: Herbs Class

Fresh herbs can add bold flavor to meals, reduce reliance on salt, and help stretch your food dollar — but many people are unsure how to harvest, store, and use herbs effectively before they spoil. Join Sarah Ware, our Jones & Onslow County Family & Consumer Science Agent, for The Stretch It, Store It, Save It: Herbs Class. It is designed to help participants gain practical, research-based skills for making the most of fresh and dried herbs at home.

During this hands-on class, participants will learn how to properly harvest herbs for best flavor, store fresh herbs to extend their shelf life, and preserve herbs through drying and other simple techniques. The class will also cover the difference between herbs and spices, when to use fresh versus dried herbs, and how timing and preparation affect flavor in cooking.

This class is part of the Stretch It, Store It, Save It series and emphasizes simple, budget-conscious strategies that can be used immediately at home. Participants will leave with educational materials, practical storage tips, and increased confidence in using herbs to add flavor to meals year-round.
