Dough It Yourself: Sourdough Breadmaking Series

Get ready to embark on a delicious and hands-on experience at our Sourdough Breadmaking Class Series!


 

During these in-person events, you'll learn the art of crafting your very own sourdough starter to use for a tangy and crusty sourdough bread. Led by our Jones & Onslow County Family & Consumer Science Agent, Sarah Ware, this series will guide you through the entire process, from creating and maintaining a sourdough starter to kneading and shaping the dough.


Whether you're a seasoned baker or a beginner, these classes are perfect for anyone looking to enhance their breadmaking skills. You'll gain valuable insights, tips, and tricks that will elevate your homemade bread to a whole new level.

Please note that this class series will be offered in multiple levels, and participants must complete the Introductory class before enrolling in any advanced courses.

Sourdough 101:


New to sourdough baking? Join us for Sourdough 101, a beginner-friendly class designed to teach you the basics of sourdough baking. In this informational session, you’ll learn how to create and maintain a starter, understand the dough-making process, and gain the knowledge needed to bake your first loaf. Hosted by Sarah Ware, Family & Consumer Sciences Agent with N.C. Cooperative Extension - Jones & Onslow County, this class is perfect for anyone starting their sourdough journey.

What You’ll Learn:


  • How to create and maintain a sourdough starter – the foundation of sourdough baking.
  • The step-by-step sourdough process – from mixing and fermenting to baking your first loaf.
  • Tips for success as a beginner – including troubleshooting common challenges and understanding key terms.

Sourdough 102:



Are you ready to take your sourdough baking skills to the next level? Join us for Sourdough 102, an advanced sourdough class designed to help you refine your techniques, troubleshoot challenges, and unlock the secrets of sourdough science. Hosted by Sarah Ware, Family & Consumer Sciences Agent with N.C. Cooperative Extension - Jones & Onslow County, this hands-on workshop is perfect for bakers who are familiar with the basics and want to elevate their craft.

  • Stretch & Fold Techniques: Perfect your dough handling to achieve an airy crumb and an excellent rise.
  • Baking Tips: From oven steaming to achieving the perfect crust, discover professional tips and tricks.
